The Fold is totally surrounded by open countryside making it very attractive to walkers and cyclists. Fishing, horse riding and golf are available a little further afield.
Walkers can enjoy many countryside walks direct from The Fold without using a car. These walks pass through rolling Cumbrian countryside and only involve gentle gradients. The Coast-to-Coast walk made famous by Alfred Wainwright passes near to Crosby Garrett.
There are many miles of gently undulating country lanes adjacent to Crosby Garrett providing excellent opportunities for cyclists who wish to explore the region.
The rivers Eden and Belah pass near Kirkby Stephen for which permits are available locally from Kirkby Stephen and District Angling Association. Permit to fish the River Lune are available from Tebay Anglers. At Newbiggin-on-Lune is Bessy Beck Trout Fishery which offers 3 trout stocked lakes suitable for beginners. The Lake District is within easy driving distance where a wealth of fishing in rivers and lakes is available.
Bird Watching and Wildlife
In the summer months the countryside around Crosby Garrett provides excellent bird watching opportunities. Buzzards, wood peckers, thrush and many other species of birds can be seen. Red squirrels live nearby as do badgers and foxes.
